Swarm intelligence is AI based on the collective behavior of decentralized, self-organized systems. Examples can be found in nature such as in ants, bird flocks, and animal herds. Swarm robotics is the application of swarm intelligence principles to robots.

Robotic swarms have capabilities that single robot systems do not have. Though each robot in the swarm may be less complex than the singular system, parallelism and redundancy gives them a distinct advantage. The lower costs makes them easier to replace and their sheer number allows for larger areas to be covered quicker.

The project consists of building the hardware platform and developing robot functionality algorithms, for an autonomous mobile robot swarm. In short, the group will be making an autonomous swarming mobile robot system from conception.
