About Us!

We are a Senior Design group at Stevens Institute of Technology comprised of three members; William McGuire, Michelle Attilio and Robert Iannacone. Read on to find out more about us!

William McGuire - Project Leader

William McGuire is currently in his last year of five years of college at Stevens Institute of Technology. He is currently undertaking a degree for Electrical Engineering. He has taken internships with companies such as Marsh and Panasonic. Most of his knowledge of the subject comes from his hobby of creating his own electronic projects.

William has created projects from basic circuits to miniature robots. His major strength is with microcontrollers, especially the PICmicro series by Microchip. Although this seems to center solely on digital technology, he also has a great interest in using raw analog power. One of his goals is to build a Tesla Coil, first designed by a man William holds in extremely high regard, Nikola Tesla.

His love of electricity led him to enter Stevens Institute of Technology as an Applied Physics major, hoping to aid in research of new electrical technologies such as cutting edge microprocessors. After his freshman year, he transferred to the Electrical Engineering department, a decision that he has never regretted. He greatly enjoys being very "hands-on," which engineering caters to more than learning only theory.

When he is not building or soldering, William reads in his spare time, mostly technical manuals and other reference materials. He has taught himself the USB protocol for future projects he has planned for himself, and he has coded device drivers and software to use said projects. He mostly uses the Perl language whenever possible, especially because he uses GNU/Linux, but he has also taught himself C and C++ and was taught Java at Stevens.

William hopes to design microchips or other such technologies as a career. His prime goals in life pertaining to his field are to build a battle-bot and to construct "the ultimate pinball table."

Michelle Attilio

Michelle Attilio is a senior graduating this May from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Engineering in Computer Engineering, a Bachelors of Art in Art and Technology and a minor in Science and Technology Studies.

She is also a part of the Cooperative Education Program which has given her the opportunity to work full time in a number of corporate environments such as Panasonic, UPS, TalkPoint and eLearners.com. At Panasonic she worked in the Research & Development department. While there, she conceptualized, designed and tested alternate Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) and helped analyze the current GUI of their digital video recorder, the DIGA. She also compiled results from a product testing using Adobe Premier and researched information about competitor companies and products.

When she worked at TalkPoint she designed and analyzed interchangeable parts for a GUI, such as buttons and menus and also worked with colors, the layout and aesthetics. She created mock-ups for template tests for other interfaces as well as assessed product usability and flow with the ‘Design Review Team’ and developers. Lastly, she diagnosed and resolved problems via phone and e-mail for live and on demand Webcasting events.

Michelle currently works at eLearners.com with the Search Engine Optimization team as well as the Marketing team. With the marketing team she assists in the development of new ideas and deigns for Creatives. Creatives are banners and ads that vary in size which are sent via e-mail blasts as well as placed on other websites to drive traffic to elearners.com. She has also created banners for use on eLearners.com.

In her free time, Michelle enjoys exercising her artistic skills through drawing, painting and illustrating.

Robert Iannacone

Rob Iannacone is an Engineering student from New Jersey in his fourth of five years at Stevens Institute of Technology. Having recently completed his final term at Panasonic of North America in the Stevens Professional Practice program, he is now working towards his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a Master's degree in Computer Engineering, and a minor in Literature.

A New Jerseyan native to the town of Sparta, Rob graduated from the Sussex County Academies of Math and Science at Sussex County Technical School, where he spent three years taking courses in practical electronics and engineering, and helped to build and race an entry in the 7th International [Human-Powered] Submarine Races as his senior project.

Rob has been a casual arcade-goer and pinball player since grade school. His specific interests within his field include hobby electronics, robotics, sensor systems, low-level programming, and networking technologies.
